Recovery Steps for Windows Update Compatibility for Windows 10


Symptom: After installing the latest Windows Updates, the computer displays a message: "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart." The system will attempt to restart and will fail a second time, displaying the same message. When it restarts the second time, Windows will display the Automatic Repair screen and automatically undo the changes and remove the latest Windows Update.

Once the computer has completed this process rebooted, rename the ggse.sys driver and reinstall Windows Updates:
  1. Sign in to Windows
  2. Run CMD.exe as Administrator and Type: cd \Windows\System32\drivers
  3. Type: ren ggse.sys ggse.sys.bak
  4. Close the Command Prompt window
  5. Restart the computer
  6. Sign in to Windows
  7. Install the latest Windows Updates
  8. Reboot
  9. Rename c:\Windows\System32\drivers\ggse.sys.bak to ggse.sys
  10. Reboot
